Back to School Community Day 2024
As part of our Plant The Seed Program, we invite you to join us for a day full of fun, learning, and community spirit. Our annual Back to School Community Day is designed to prepare teachers, students, and families for the upcoming school year with a wide range of free services, activities, and resources.

Prepare for the upcoming school year with a day full of fun and essential resources for teachers, students, and families. In collaboration with the Ricky Codio Foundation, Nia Bailey Books, and PHILABAG, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.
What to Expect:
- Expo & After School Preparation: Explore a variety of booths and activities focused on after-school programs and educational resources.
- Free Backpack Giveaway: Ensure your child starts the school year prepared with a free backpack filled with school supplies.
- Live Music and Spoken Word Performances: Enjoy energetic live performances and music by DJ Sherlan, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the day.
- Free Hair Cuts & Braiding Styles: Local barbers and stylists will be on-site offering free haircuts and braiding services to help students feel confident and ready for school.
- Free Health Screenings: Take advantage of free health screenings to ensure your child’s well-being.
- Free Photo Shoot: Capture memories of the day with a professional photo shoot.
- Community Resources: Access information and support from various community organizations dedicated to helping families.
- Food Truck: Savor tasty treats from local food vendors.
- Fun Games, Arts & Crafts: Participate in a wide range of fun games, arts and crafts, and other engaging activities.

The Philadelphia public school system faces significant challenges due to chronic underfunding. Teachers are often left to bridge the gap by spending their own money on classroom supplies. On average, 3.5 million educators nationwide are shelling out at least $500 annually out of their pockets to ensure their students have the tools they need to learn and succeed.
Our goal is simple: to give 1,500 school bags full of supplies to students who need them. This will help teachers and families by making sure every child has what they need for school.
